Mean Black Moon Lilith

Definition

Mean Black Moon Lilith is the averaged, mathematically smoothed position of the Moon’s apogee—the point in its orbit farthest from Earth. It is not a physical body and should not be confused with asteroid Lilith. Unlike True Black Moon Lilith, which can move irregularly and briefly retrograde, the mean calculation produces a steadier path through the zodiac.

Astrological Meaning

In modern astrology, Mean Black Moon Lilith is often associated with autonomy, disowned desires, boundaries, taboo subjects, and parts of the self that resist social approval. Its zodiac sign may describe how these themes are expressed, while its house suggests the life area where they may become especially noticeable. Close aspects to planets can add further context; for example, contact with Venus may emphasize relationship values, whereas contact with Saturn may highlight control, restraint, or authority. These meanings are symbolic rather than predictive.

Why It Matters

Using the mean position gives astrologers a consistent reference point when interpreting Lilith themes in a natal chart, synastry comparison, or transit study. Because Mean and True Black Moon Lilith can occupy different degrees or even different signs, checking the calculation setting prevents confusion. Comparing both positions may be useful, but neither should outweigh the chart’s planets, angles, and broader patterns. Lilith is most informative when treated as one interpretive layer rather than a fixed verdict about character or events.
