In astrology, contact is a general term for a meaningful connection between chart factors, most often planets joined by conjunction or linked by an aspect. It may also describe a planet touching an angle, house cusp, fixed star, or another sensitive point. The exact meaning depends on the technique and tradition being used.

Astrological Meaning

A contact indicates that the connected factors participate in a shared pattern. The planets show the drives or functions involved, while the aspect describes how readily or tensely they may combine. Sign, house, dignity, reception, speed, and angularity refine the interpretation. A close contact is usually given more emphasis than a wide one, although acceptable orbs vary among astrologers. In traditional work, applying contacts may suggest something developing, while separating contacts can describe circumstances already established or moving apart. Contact alone does not determine whether an outcome is favorable; the condition of the planets and the wider chart must also be considered.

Why It Matters

Recognizing contacts helps an astrologer identify which parts of a chart are actively connected rather than interpreting every placement in isolation.
