Definition

Celes is not a widely standardized term in classical or modern astrology. In historical notes, indexes, or transcriptions, it may appear as an abbreviation, variant spelling, or incomplete form of a word relating to the celestial sphere. It may also be a mistaken rendering of Ceres or of the Latin coeli, meaning “of the sky” or “of heaven.”

Astrological Meaning

Celes should not be assigned a fixed interpretation without examining its original context. If the intended word is Ceres, interpretation concerns the asteroid associated with nurturing, sustenance, attachment, separation, and renewal. If it refers to coeli, it may belong to a phrase such as Medium Coeli, the Midheaven, which relates to public life, vocation, reputation, and visibility. A general celestial reference may instead describe planets, stars, or coordinate systems rather than a distinct chart factor.

Why It Matters

Clarifying the term prevents an astrologer from interpreting the wrong symbol or technique. Check the spelling, surrounding text, chart glyph, house notation, and historical language before drawing conclusions. This is especially important with older astrological documents, where Latin expressions, printer variations, and later transcription errors are common.
