Definition
A spectroscope is a scientific instrument that separates light into its component wavelengths, producing a spectrum. Astronomers use spectroscopy to study the chemical composition, temperature, motion, and other physical properties of stars and planets. The device belongs primarily to astronomy rather than to the traditional toolkit of astrology.
Astrological Meaning
A spectroscope has no standard interpretive meaning in natal, horary, electional, or mundane astrology. Its relevance is indirect: spectroscopic discoveries contribute to scientific knowledge about celestial bodies that astrologers may also discuss symbolically. Astrology generally derives interpretation from planetary positions, zodiac signs, houses, aspects, cycles, and established traditions—not from spectral measurements. Modern astrologers may find astronomical findings enriching, but these findings do not automatically create new chart meanings.
Why It Matters
Understanding the distinction between astronomy and astrology prevents confusion about how celestial information is obtained and interpreted.
