Definition

Satellitium is a traditional astrological term for a close gathering of several planets, usually within the same zodiac sign or house. It is broadly comparable to the modern term stellium. The required number of planets varies among astrological schools, so the chart’s actual configuration matters more than a rigid numerical rule.

Astrological Meaning

A satellitium concentrates planetary functions in one area of a chart. When grouped by sign, the planets repeatedly express themselves through that sign’s element, modality, and ruler. When grouped by house, they emphasize the topics associated with that house. Interpretation should also consider conjunctions, planetary dignity, sect, house rulership, and the condition of the planet governing the group. The planets do not merge into a single influence; each retains its own symbolism while interacting closely with the others.

Why It Matters

Recognizing a satellitium helps identify where a natal chart carries unusual complexity or emphasis. It may describe a strong focus, recurring concern, or cluster of abilities, but it does not guarantee success or difficulty. Benefic and challenging factors can coexist within the same group. Careful analysis prevents the concentration from overshadowing the rest of the chart, including the Ascendant, luminaries, angles, and planets elsewhere.
