Saturn
Definition
Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun and one of the seven traditional planets used in astrology. It rules Capricorn and, in traditional practice, Aquarius. Astrologers associate Saturn with structure, limits, responsibility, time, discipline, authority, and the consequences of sustained effort. Its glyph resembles a cross of matter above a curved form, emphasizing practical reality and constraint.
Astrological Meaning
In a natal chart, Saturn describes areas where a person may encounter caution, duty, delay, or a strong need to develop competence. Its sign suggests the style in which discipline and self-command are expressed, while its house identifies the life area where these themes may become especially noticeable. Saturn’s aspects show how its serious, stabilizing qualities interact with other planets. During transits, Saturn can coincide with periods of reassessment, commitment, boundary-setting, and gradual consolidation rather than simple misfortune.
Why It Matters
Saturn helps astrologers examine maturity, endurance, accountability, and the structures that make lasting achievement possible. Although traditionally called a malefic, it should not be read as a guarantee of hardship. Its symbolism can describe both restrictive patterns and valuable capacities for patience, realism, mastery, and dependable action. Interpretation depends on the whole chart, including Saturn’s condition, house, sign, aspects, and timing.
