Station Retrograde

Definition

A station retrograde occurs when a planet appears to pause in the zodiac before beginning its apparent backward motion as viewed from Earth. The planet does not actually reverse its orbit; the effect results from the changing positions and speeds of Earth and the other planet. An ephemeris marks the station as the transition from direct to retrograde motion.

Astrological Meaning

Astrologers often treat a station as a concentrated phase because the planet remains near one zodiacal degree for longer than usual. At the retrograde station, its themes may become more noticeable, reflective, delayed, or open to revision. Interpretation depends on the planet, sign, degree, house, and aspects involved. In a natal chart, a planet born near its retrograde station may be experienced as especially emphasized or inwardly processed. In transit work, the station can highlight an unfolding issue, particularly when it closely contacts a natal planet or angle.
