Sesqui-quadrate

Definition

The sesqui-quadrate, also called the sesquisquare, is an astrological aspect formed when two planets or chart points are approximately 135 degrees apart. It belongs to the same aspect family as the square and semi-square and is generally treated as a minor challenging aspect. Astrologers usually apply a relatively narrow orb, often about two or three degrees, depending on their method.

Astrological Meaning

In interpretation, a sesqui-quadrate may indicate friction between the functions represented by the two planets. Unlike an opposition, which often presents a visible polarity, this aspect can describe pressure that is harder to identify directly. One planet’s needs or habits may repeatedly complicate the expression of the other. The signs show how the tension operates, while the houses identify the areas of life in which it may become noticeable. A tight aspect involving the Sun, Moon, Ascendant, or chart ruler is generally given greater weight.
