Night Home

Definition

Night Home is a traditional term for a planet’s nocturnal domicile: the zodiac sign associated with its night-side rulership. It is not the same as an astrological house or simply a planet placed in a nighttime chart. In the conventional scheme, the night homes are Cancer for the Moon, Virgo for Mercury, Taurus for Venus, Scorpio for Mars, Pisces for Jupiter, and Capricorn for Saturn.

Astrological Meaning

A planet in its night home is considered to have domicile dignity, suggesting that it can express its nature through familiar resources and conditions. The word “night” identifies the receptive, inward, or traditionally feminine member of a planet’s domicile pair; it does not automatically make the placement hidden, weak, or negative. For example, Mars in Scorpio may act with concentration and strategic persistence, while Venus in Taurus may emphasize continuity, embodiment, and stable values. Interpretation should also consider sect, house placement, aspects, retrogradation, and other essential dignities.
