Definition

Frustration is a traditional astrological condition in which an applying aspect fails to perfect because one of the planets involved completes another relevant connection first. In horary astrology, it commonly describes a faster planet applying to a slower planet while the slower planet perfects an aspect with a third planet before the original contact occurs.

Astrological Meaning

Frustration can symbolize an intended development being interrupted, redirected, or overtaken by another person, obligation, or circumstance. The planets serve as significators, the applying aspect represents the anticipated event, and the intervening perfection shows what may alter its course. Sign, house, reception, dignity, speed, and the nature of the third planet help clarify whether the interruption is a temporary delay, a change of priority, or a more substantial obstacle. Traditional authors and modern practitioners sometimes distinguish frustration from related conditions such as prohibition, refranation, and abscission, although terminology varies.
