Definition
In astrology, a series is an ordered sequence of related factors considered according to a consistent pattern. The term may describe the succession of zodiac signs, houses, planetary periods, aspects, or repeated chart events. It is a general organizational term rather than a single technique with one universally accepted definition, so its precise meaning depends on the tradition and context in which it appears.
Astrological Meaning
A series helps an astrologer follow development from one stage to another. The zodiac forms a series of twelve signs, while the houses create a sequence of life topics beginning with the Ascendant. Transits can also be studied as a series when a planet makes repeated aspects because of retrograde motion. In traditional methods, planetary rulers, time-lord periods, or aspect sequences may likewise be arranged in order. Interpretation should identify what is being sequenced, the rule governing the order, and whether the series is symbolic, spatial, or chronological.
Why It Matters
Recognizing a series prevents isolated chart factors from being interpreted without context. It can show progression, repetition, and changes of emphasis, but it does not by itself determine an outcome. Its value comes from the underlying technique and the condition of the planets or points involved. When the term appears in an older text or specialized method, checking that system’s definition is essential before drawing conclusions.
