Definition

Chronos is the Greek personification of time, especially time understood as measurable sequence, duration, and orderly progression. In astrology, the name is usually used as a philosophical or symbolic term rather than as a standard planet, sign, house, or calculated chart point. Chronos is often confused with Cronus, the Titan later associated with the Roman god Saturn, but their original identities are distinct.

Astrological Meaning

Astrologically, Chronos can represent the unfolding of cycles, the effects of duration, maturation, aging, and the timing of development. These themes frequently overlap with Saturn because later traditions blended Chronos and Cronus in art and interpretation. However, Chronos has no universally accepted placement in a natal chart. Its meaning therefore depends on context: an astrologer may use it poetically when discussing planetary cycles, technically when examining timing methods, or historically when explaining Saturn’s connection with time. Chronos should also be distinguished from Kronos, a hypothetical factor used in Uranian astrology.
