A square is an astrological aspect formed when two planets or chart points are approximately 90 degrees apart. It divides the zodiac circle into four equal sections and is traditionally classified as a challenging or dynamic aspect. Its accepted orb varies according to the planets involved, the type of chart, and the astrologer’s method.

Astrological Meaning

The square suggests friction between two drives that do not cooperate automatically. The planets describe the energies involved, while their signs show how those energies operate and their houses identify the life areas where the tension may be experienced. A close square is usually emphasized more strongly than a wide one. Squares in a natal chart can indicate recurring inner conflicts, motivating pressures, or skills developed through effort.
