Definition

A quintile is a minor astrological aspect formed when two planets or chart points are approximately 72 degrees apart, dividing the zodiacal circle into five equal sections. It belongs to the fifth-harmonic aspect family and is commonly interpreted with a narrow orb. The related biquintile measures about 144 degrees.

Astrological Meaning

In a natal chart, a quintile may describe a distinctive ability to organize, shape, or creatively apply the energies of the two connected planets. Unlike a trine, which often suggests an easy flow, the quintile is associated with deliberate pattern-making, technique, and specialized talent. Its expression depends on the planets, signs, houses, and overall chart context. In transit work, a quintile may coincide with opportunities to experiment, refine a skill, or approach a problem inventively, but it does not promise a particular result.

Why It Matters

Quintiles can reveal subtler capacities that major aspects alone may not fully explain.
