Quadrate, or quartile, is a traditional name for the square aspect. It occurs when two planets or chart points are approximately 90 degrees apart, corresponding to one-quarter of the zodiacal circle. The exact 90-degree relationship is modified by an allowable orb, whose size depends on the planets involved and the astrological method being used. In chart notation, it is usually shown by a square symbol.

Astrological Meaning

The quadrate is generally interpreted as a dynamic or challenging aspect. The connected planets may represent drives that compete, frustrate one another, or demand conscious coordination.
