Naibod’s Table of Times

Definition

Naibod's Table of Times is a traditional astrological reference used to convert an arc of primary direction into an estimated period of life. Named for the sixteenth-century astrologer Valentin Naibod, it applies a time key based on the Sun’s mean daily motion: approximately 59 minutes and 8 seconds of arc for one year.

Astrological Meaning

In primary directions, an astrologer calculates the angular distance required for one chart factor to reach a significant relationship with another. Naibod’s table translates that distance into symbolic timing. The directed factor, natal significator, chosen direction method, and time key are separate parts of the process and should not be confused. The table does not interpret the event itself; meaning comes from the planets, angles, houses, and aspects involved.

Why It Matters

Different time keys can produce different dates from the same directional arc. Naibod’s measure therefore matters when evaluating or comparing traditional forecasts. It offers a standardized alternative to the common Ptolemaic key of one degree per year, but its results are best treated as approximate timing indicators and considered alongside transits, profections, solar returns, and the natal chart.
