Celestial latitude is a planet’s angular distance north or south of the ecliptic, the apparent yearly path of the Sun. “The other half in South Latitude” refers to the portion of a body’s cycle spent below, or south of, that reference plane. A body generally enters southern latitude after crossing its descending node and returns north after crossing its ascending node.
