Kabala

Definition

Kabala is a variant spelling of Kabbalah, a diverse body of Jewish mystical teachings concerned with creation, divine attributes, scripture, and the relationship between the spiritual and material worlds. Important concepts include the ten sefirot and the Tree of Life. Later Western esoteric traditions adapted selected Kabbalistic ideas, sometimes spelling the term Qabalah to distinguish their systems from Jewish Kabbalah.

Astrological Meaning

Kabala is not a standard component of every astrological tradition. In Western occult astrology, however, practitioners may associate planets, zodiac signs, elements, and celestial spheres with the sefirot or the paths of the Tree of Life. These correspondences provide a symbolic framework for contemplating planetary qualities and stages of spiritual development. Systems differ considerably, so an interpretation depends on the particular Kabbalistic or Hermetic school being used. The natal chart remains the astrological foundation, while Kabala functions as an additional interpretive lens.

Why It Matters

Understanding Kabala helps readers recognize the origins and limits of correspondences found in some esoteric astrology texts. It can deepen symbolic reflection, especially when comparing planetary themes with the Tree of Life, but its religious context deserves care and respect. Clearly identifying whether a source follows Jewish Kabbalah, Christian Cabala, or Hermetic Qabalah also prevents distinct traditions from being treated as interchangeable.
