Fortunate Signs
Definition
Fortunate Signs is a traditional astrological expression for zodiac signs considered favorable under a particular interpretive system. It does not describe a universally accepted group of inherently lucky signs. Lists and definitions may differ among authors, periods, and branches of astrology, so the term should always be understood within its original context.
Astrological Meaning
A sign may be called fortunate because of its ruler, relationship to a benefic planet, elemental qualities, dignities, or usefulness in answering a specific question. In natal astrology, such a sign might be viewed as supporting ease or constructive expression in the area it occupies. In electional or horary work, it may indicate conditions that assist the matter being judged. The sign alone is not decisive: its ruling planet, planetary occupants, aspects, house position, sect, and overall chart condition can strengthen, modify, or contradict the favorable classification.
Why It Matters
Recognizing this terminology helps readers interpret older astrological texts without assuming that some people are born luckier solely because of their Sun sign. Fortunate Signs are best treated as one layer of symbolic judgment rather than a prediction. Comparing the author’s definitions with the complete chart produces a more balanced and historically informed interpretation.
