Semi-sextile
Definition
A semi-sextile is a minor astrological aspect formed when two planets or chart points are approximately 30 degrees apart. This usually places them in neighboring zodiac signs. Because it is a subtle aspect, astrologers commonly use a narrow orb, often about one to two degrees, although preferred orbs vary by method.
Astrological Meaning
The semi-sextile links two energies that are close together yet operate through signs with different elements, modalities, and approaches. Its influence is often interpreted as mild friction, partial cooperation, or a need for small but conscious adjustments. Unlike the 60-degree sextile, it does not necessarily indicate an easy flow. In a natal chart, it may describe qualities that can support one another once their differences are recognized. In transit work, it can correspond with a modest prompt to adapt, coordinate, or notice an overlooked connection. The planets involved, their signs, houses, condition, and exactness determine how significant the aspect is.
Why It Matters
This aspect can reveal fine distinctions that major aspects do not fully describe. It is most useful as a supporting detail rather than the sole basis for an interpretation. When repeated, very exact, or connected to prominent planets and angles, a semi-sextile may become more noticeable. Reading it within the whole chart helps prevent a subtle pattern from being overstated.
