A station is the period when a planet appears nearly motionless against the zodiac before changing its apparent direction. A station retrograde occurs as it turns from direct to retrograde motion; a station direct occurs before it resumes direct motion. The effect is geocentric and results from the changing orbital relationship between Earth and the planet.
Astrologers often treat a stationary planet as concentrated or unusually prominent because it remains near one zodiacal degree longer than usual. In a natal chart, its sign, house, aspects, and whether it is stationing direct or retrograde describe how that emphasis may operate.
