An inferior conjunction occurs when Mercury or Venus passes between Earth and the Sun, appearing from Earth to occupy the same zodiacal longitude as the Sun. Unlike a superior conjunction, the planet is on the near side of the Sun. This alignment happens during the planet’s retrograde phase and marks a key point in its synodic cycle.
