Asc is the standard abbreviation for the Ascendant, also called the rising sign. It marks the zodiac degree rising on the eastern horizon at a specific time and place. In a natal chart, the Asc usually forms the cusp of the first house, although house-system conventions can affect how that house is displayed.

Astrological Meaning

Astrologers associate the Asc with outward manner, instinctive responses, self-presentation, and the way a person approaches unfamiliar situations. Its zodiac sign describes the style through which these qualities may be expressed, while planets closely conjunct the Ascendant can strongly modify that style.
