In natal astrology, an ascending body near the eastern horizon may be emphasized because it is emerging into visibility and is often associated with direct expression or prominence. Classical astrologers also considered ascensional time—the time required for a zodiacal arc to rise—which varies by latitude. References to signs of long or short ascension concern this astronomical timing rather than a sign’s strength or quality by itself.

Why It Matters
