Solar Semicircle
Definition
The Solar Semicircle is the half of the zodiac traditionally associated with the Sun in the classical arrangement of planetary domiciles. It extends from Leo through Capricorn: Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, and Capricorn. Beginning with the Sun’s domicile in Leo, rulerships proceed outward in traditional planetary order: Mercury rules Virgo, Venus rules Libra, Mars rules Scorpio, Jupiter rules Sagittarius, and Saturn rules Capricorn. It is paired with the Lunar Semicircle, which extends from Cancer through Aquarius in the opposite direction.
Astrological Meaning
The Solar Semicircle helps explain the symmetry underlying traditional sign rulerships. Each planet other than the luminaries receives one domicile in the solar half and one in the lunar half of the zodiac. Astrologers may use this structure to study domicile dignity, planetary sect, and the symbolic relationship between the Sun, visibility, authority, and outward expression. However, the semicircle itself is an organizing principle rather than a standalone predictive factor.
