Porphyry Houses

Definition

Porphyry Houses is a quadrant house system that uses the Ascendant, Midheaven, Descendant, and Imum Coeli as the cusps of the first, tenth, seventh, and fourth houses. It divides each of the four ecliptic arcs between these angles into three equal sections, creating twelve houses. Because the quadrants vary in size, the resulting houses are often unequal.

Astrological Meaning

In a Porphyry chart, a planet’s house describes the area of life through which its symbolism may be expressed, while its sign describes its style and condition. The angular houses retain particular emphasis because their cusps coincide with the chart’s four principal angles. Compared with Whole Sign or Equal Houses, Porphyry may place some planets in different houses, especially when they are close to a cusp.
