Infortunes is a traditional astrological term for planets associated with difficulty, obstruction, conflict, or loss. It most commonly refers to the two classical malefics: Saturn, called the greater infortune, and Mars, called the lesser infortune. The label describes their customary functions within traditional astrology rather than declaring them universally harmful.

Astrological Meaning

In a natal chart, an infortune may indicate where effort, restraint, courage, or endurance becomes especially important. Saturn tends to signify limits, delays, duties, scarcity, and lasting consequences, while Mars tends to signify heat, severance, competition, haste, and confrontation.
