Clairsentience

Definition

Clairsentience means “clear feeling” and refers to the claimed intuitive perception of emotions, atmospheres, or physical sensations without an obvious source. It is commonly discussed in psychic and spiritual practices rather than as a formal technique of classical astrology. Clairsentience is distinct from ordinary empathy, although the two may feel similar in personal experience.

Astrological Meaning

In intuitive astrology, clairsentience may describe how a practitioner senses the emotional tone of a natal chart, transit, or relationship comparison before translating that impression into astrological language. Astrologers sometimes associate heightened sensitivity with the Moon, Neptune, Pisces, Cancer, or the water houses, especially when these factors are prominent or closely connected. Such symbolism does not prove psychic ability, however. A careful interpretation considers the whole chart, distinguishes intuition from assumption, and uses established factors—signs, houses, aspects, and planetary condition—to test an initial impression.

Why It Matters

Understanding clairsentience helps separate intuitive input from the chart symbols used to support an interpretation. This distinction can make consultations clearer and more ethical, particularly when emotionally charged impressions arise. Recording impressions, checking them against chart details, and inviting the client’s perspective can reduce projection. Clairsentience is best treated as a possible interpretive aid, not as certainty or a substitute for sound astrological judgment.
