Definition
Psychometry is a psychic practice in which someone handles or focuses on a physical object and observes impressions believed to relate to its owner, history, or surroundings. These impressions may take the form of emotions, images, sensations, or intuitive associations. Psychometry is a form of divination rather than a standard branch of astrology.
Astrological Meaning
When combined with astrology, psychometry may provide intuitive material that is compared with a natal chart, horary chart, or current transits. The object-based impression and the astrological chart remain distinct sources of information: psychometry begins with an object, while astrology interprets planetary positions and relationships. An astrologer using both might look for symbolic parallels without treating either method as unquestionable proof. Psychometry was not a core technique of classical astrology, although some modern intuitive practitioners incorporate it into consultations.
Why It Matters
Understanding psychometry helps distinguish astrological methods from related psychic practices. This distinction allows clients and practitioners to recognize whether an interpretation comes from chart symbolism, intuitive impressions, or a blend of both. When used thoughtfully, psychometry may encourage reflection or add context, but impressions are subjective and benefit from careful language, consent, and practical verification where possible.
