Decreasing or Increasing in Light is a traditional astrological condition describing whether a celestial body’s visible illumination is diminishing or growing. It is most clearly applied to the Moon: the Moon increases in light while waxing from the New Moon toward the Full Moon and decreases in light while waning from the Full Moon toward the next New Moon. Classical authors also assessed planetary light through solar phase and visibility, although exact rules can vary by planet and tradition.

Astrological Meaning

Increasing light is commonly associated with development, accumulation, emergence, and matters moving toward fuller expression. Decreasing light may suggest release, consolidation, withdrawal, completion, or a turn toward inward activity. These qualities do not automatically make a planet fortunate or unfortunate. They describe a phase within a cycle and must be considered alongside sign, house, aspects, speed, sect, dignity, and proximity to the Sun.

Why It Matters
