Tables of Houses are reference tables used to calculate the zodiacal degrees appearing on the cusps of astrological houses. Organized by local sidereal time and geographic latitude, they provide values for a particular house system, such as Placidus or Regiomontanus. Astrologers traditionally consulted them when constructing charts by hand.

Astrological Meaning

Tables of Houses do not carry an interpretation of their own. Their astrological significance comes from establishing the house cusps, especially the Ascendant and Midheaven, that organize a chart into areas of experience. Once calculated, these cusps help an astrologer determine which planets occupy particular houses and which signs govern them. Results can differ between house systems, so the table used must match the astrologer’s chosen method.

Why It Matters

Before astrology software, these tables were essential tools for producing accurate natal, event, and horary charts. They remain useful for understanding how chart calculations work and for checking computerized results. Because the correct latitude, time conversion, and house system all matter, studying Tables of Houses also highlights the distinction between astronomical calculation and astrological interpretation. Small input errors may shift cusps and, in some cases, change house placements.
