Definition

A nova is an astronomical event in which a previously faint star suddenly becomes much brighter and then gradually fades. The term comes from the Latin for “new,” reflecting how such an object can appear to be a new star. Unlike a supernova, a nova does not normally destroy the underlying star.

Astrological Meaning

In traditional and mundane astrology, an unexpected bright object could be interpreted as a temporary celestial sign rather than a standard natal-chart factor. Its possible meaning would be judged from its zodiacal position, constellation, visibility, brightness, duration, and the places where it could be observed. Historical interpretations often connected unusual sky phenomena with public affairs or shifts in collective attention. Modern astrologers may treat a nova symbolically as an image of emergence, revelation, or a brief intensification, but there is no single universally accepted method for reading one.
