Definition
A dispositor is the planet that rules the zodiac sign occupied by another planet or chart point. For example, Mars disposits a planet in Aries because Mars rules Aries. Following these rulership connections through a chart creates a dispositor chain, which may lead to a final dispositor or form a closed loop known as mutual reception.
Astrological Meaning
Astrologers use dispositors to understand how one planet’s expression is directed, supported, or complicated by another. The disposited planet describes a function or drive, while its dispositor indicates the planetary authority shaping how that function operates. The dispositor’s sign, house, aspects, condition, and essential dignity all contribute to interpretation. A strong dispositor may offer clearer channels for expression, while a challenged one can suggest that the planet must work through tension, delay, or competing priorities.
