Dexter is a traditional astrological term meaning “right.” It describes an aspect cast backward against the usual order of the zodiac. For example, a planet in Aries casts a dexter trine toward Sagittarius, while its trine toward Leo is called sinister. The distinction identifies the direction of an aspect rather than its angular type or inherent quality.

Astrological Meaning

In classical astrology, dexter aspects were often considered stronger, more authoritative, or better positioned to act than sinister aspects. This judgment was linked to traditional ideas about planetary motion, visibility, and the symbolic priority of the right side. Dexter does not replace the basic meaning of a conjunction, sextile, square, trine, or opposition.
