Afflicted Planet
Definition
A planet is described as afflicted when it is under significant strain from difficult aspects, harsh contacts, or weakening chart conditions. The term has traditionally been applied to squares, oppositions, close contacts with malefics, combustion, or besiegement.
Astrological Meaning
An afflicted planet is not automatically powerless or disastrous. It often expresses through tension, delay, pressure, conflict, or the need for conscious development. The sign, house, dignity, and available supportive aspects determine how the challenge is experienced.
Why It Matters
The word offers a quick description of planetary difficulty, but it should never replace full synthesis. A stressful placement may become a source of endurance, skill, or motivation when the individual learns how to direct its energy constructively.
