Planetary Days

Definition

Planetary Days are the seven days of the week assigned to the seven traditional visible planets. Sunday belongs to the Sun, Monday to the Moon, Tuesday to Mars, Wednesday to Mercury, Thursday to Jupiter, Friday to Venus, and Saturday to Saturn. In many traditional systems, a planetary day begins at local sunrise rather than at midnight.

Astrological Meaning

Each day is thought to carry the general symbolism of its ruling planet. Sun days may emphasize visibility or vitality; Moon days, care and change; Mars days, action and conflict; Mercury days, communication and trade; Jupiter days, growth and judgment; Venus days, harmony and relationships; and Saturn days, discipline and limits. This influence is broad and is usually refined through planetary hours, the ruler’s condition, and the purpose of the activity being considered.

Why It Matters

Planetary Days provide a simple timing framework, especially in traditional and electional astrology. An astrologer may choose a day whose ruler supports an intended task, such as Mercury’s day for correspondence or Venus’s day for social matters. The day alone does not guarantee an outcome; chart conditions, practical circumstances, and individual choices remain important. Planetary days also help explain the historical astrological structure behind weekday names and ceremonial timing.
