Antiscion

Definition

An antiscion is the mirror point of a planet or chart degree across the Cancer–Capricorn solstitial axis. The term’s plural is antiscia. Two positions in antiscion are equally distant from 0° Cancer or 0° Capricorn, linking paired signs such as Gemini and Cancer, Taurus and Leo, or Aries and Virgo. Astrologers calculate the exact mirrored degree rather than treating the entire sign pair as connected.

Astrological Meaning

In traditional astrology, antiscia can indicate a concealed or indirect relationship between planets. When a planet occupies another planet’s antiscion degree, some astrologers interpret the connection as resembling a subtle conjunction, even though the bodies are not together by ordinary zodiacal longitude. Its significance depends on factors such as degree accuracy, planetary condition, houses, rulerships, and the subject being judged. Antiscia may be used in natal, horary, electional, and mundane work, although methods and preferred orbs vary among practitioners.

Why It Matters

Antiscia add a secondary layer of chart relationships that ordinary aspects may not reveal. They can help explain why two planets appear to cooperate, echo one another, or influence the same topic despite lacking a major aspect. Because this technique belongs mainly to traditional practice, it is best considered alongside—not instead of—standard aspects, house placement, dignity, and rulership. Careful use prevents a minor mirrored contact from being given more weight than the chart supports.
