Beginning Saturday, October 3, Venus turns retrograde, opening an important period of reflection involving relationships, money, values, beauty and self-worth. Venus begins its retrograde in Scorpio and eventually moves backward into Libra before turning direct in mid-November.
Unlike Mercury retrograde, which occurs several times each year, Venus retrograde happens only about once every 18 months. Because Venus governs relationships, attraction, pleasure, finances and personal values, its retrograde periods can noticeably shift how we feel about people—and about the things we once believed we wanted.
The key word during Venus retrograde is reassessment.
Love, Relationships and Second Chances
Relationships may require another look. Unresolved issues can resurface, while old friends, former partners or people we once felt strongly about may reappear. That does not necessarily mean an old relationship should be restarted. Sometimes someone returns because there is unfinished emotional business or because we are finally ready to understand the relationship differently.
Money, Values and Creative Renewal
This is also an excellent period for reviewing finances. Examine spending habits, renegotiate expenses and reconsider whether financial choices still reflect your priorities.
Creative projects can benefit as well. Rather than launching something completely new, return to something abandoned. Redesign it, edit it, restore it or rediscover an artistic interest you once enjoyed.
Most importantly, Venus retrograde asks: What do I value now?
This may not be the ideal time to rush into marriage, begin an important relationship based solely on intense attraction, make an expensive luxury purchase, dramatically alter your appearance or undergo elective cosmetic procedures.
Taste and desire can temporarily shift under Venus retrograde. Something—or someone—that seems irresistible now may look very different once Venus moves forward again.
Impulse purchases also deserve extra scrutiny. Scorpio intensifies desire and emotional attachment, while Libra seeks beauty, pleasure and harmony. Together, they can encourage spending based on emotional satisfaction rather than practical need.
Jealousy, possessiveness, resentment and questions involving trust may also become more noticeable. Instead of immediately reacting, consider what those feelings are trying to reveal.
Connecting the Dots: 1994 • 2002 • 2010 • 2018 • 2026
Venus follows a distinctive cycle, returning to approximately the same region of the zodiac every eight years. That makes the autumn Venus retrogrades of 2018, 2010, 2002 and 1994 especially valuable reference points for 2026.
Think back to those periods. What was happening in your relationships, finances, self-worth, sexuality, trust or major financial arrangements?
Do not expect identical events. Astrology rarely repeats itself that literally. Instead, look for the repeating theme.
Perhaps commitment repeatedly becomes important. Maybe financial independence resurfaces. Questions involving loyalty, intimacy, sharing, jealousy or emotional boundaries may return in different forms. You may even notice the same type of person appearing under completely different circumstances.
This is how we “connect the dots” astrologically.
1994 may have introduced a theme.
2002 may have developed it.
2010 may have presented another version.
2018 may have revealed something further.
Now, 2026 gives us another opportunity to understand the pattern.
Venus retrograde begins by digging beneath the surface and ends by reconsidering balance. Pay attention to who returns, what feelings return, what financial questions reappear and what memories unexpectedly occupy your thoughts.
Sometimes Venus retrograde brings something back because we are meant to reclaim it. Other times, it returns so we can finally recognize that we have outgrown it.
Either way, the past can become an extraordinarily useful mirror.
